Japanese console manufacturer Nintendo plans to introduce a new console this summer. They're further expanding into the handheld console gaming market with their upcoming product, the Nintendo 2DS XL.

The Nintendo 2DS XL is expected to be unveiled this summer and will be sold at a price of $149. The new console is a larger variant of the child-friendly 2DS device. Nintendo had launched the 2DS console back in 2013 as an alternative to the 3DS console that offers a stereoscopic 3D screen.

The new Nintendo 2DS XL console will be offered in a color scheme of black/turquoise beginning Jul. 28. Nintendo will sell the new product in 'Japan as 2DS LL' with an exclusive white/orange color scheme while the manufacturer has definite plans for the European markets sometime in July however, they did not specify an exact date for the same.

Details from Polygon indicates that the Nintendo 2DS XL console will feature a C-stick along with ZL/ZR buttons and will also support all 3DS XL games too. It features an NFC reader and comes with a micro-SD card with 4GB of storage. Like the original 2DS console, the new 2DS XL too will ship with an AC power adapter in the box.

Meanwhile, a report from The Verge mentions that Japan will be receiving early shipments for a price of 14980 Yen and will be available for purchase as early as Jul. 13 itself. The design for the new Nintendo 2DS XL console slightly differs from the original 2DS device, with it being slightly smaller and sleeker in size.

Nintendo's latest offering to the console gaming market is the Switch console which became an instant hit likely due to the new release of "Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild" video game supporting the device. The manufacturer in their latest report mentioned that Nintendo expects the sales to cross 10 million units this year. Overall, for $149, the Nintendo 2DS XL is a new change with a slightly bigger size and a competitive price.
