AMD had just recently announced the upcoming Vega GPUs, the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition. The Frontier Edition was said to come out before the Radeon RX Vega ahead of its launch at the end of July but it was revealed to be already up for pre-order on some retail sites.
According to PC World, the AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition is available for pre-order on two online retailers, which is from the U.S. and U.K. Both the retail sites named SaberPC and Scan offers the premium air-cooled and liquid-cooled version of the GPU. The Frontier Editions were then not considered made for gamers but as workstation GPUs instead.
With that said, it was made known that both the Vega Frontier Edition’s versions has the same specs aside from their thermal design power (TDP) rating. Both of the versions were said to pack 26.2 TFLOPS in its double precision compute performance, 16GB of the second generation HBM2 with 483GB/sec of memory bandwidth. It was also noted to have 4096 Stream Processors on 64 Compute Units along with a core clock speed of 1586MHz. Both were also said to come with three DisplayPort 1.4 connectors and a single HDMI port.
Moreover, speeding up machine learning algorithm development by 50 percent compared to other machine learning GPUs was said to be possible through the AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition. Another advantage from the Vega Frontier is that it provides high-quality performance in Advanced Visualization development methods like physically-based rendering and virtual reality.
Aside from that, the AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition works well in VR content creation supporting AMD’s LiquidVR technology and enhancing game creation. AMD also announced that they ensure that the Radeon RX Vega will be faster than the Vega Frontier Edition. Yet, would compete with the pricing of NVIDIA’s current Pascal-based GeForce GTX 10-Series cards as reported by Hot Hardware.
Nonetheless, the air-cooled and liquid-cooled Radeon Vega Frontier Edition graphics cards were identified to cost $1,200 and $1,800, respectively on the SaberPC site. Newegg was also said to make both the Frontier Editions available for pre-order at the same price. The GPUs only differ in their TDP as the air-cooled version is listed with 300W while the liquid-cooled with 375W.
