With coronavirus still ongoing and seems to be not going away anytime soon, there have been talks that holidays, such as Thanksgiving and Halloween, will be cancelled. But it need not be as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released new guidelines on how to celebrate the holidays this year -- safely.

The CDC guidelines include the before, during, and after preparations so that people can still celebrate the holidays this year even with the pandemic. After all, people in the world right now need at least something to celebrate, although some would think it would be insensitive. Celebrating holidays this year could boost the morale of many people.

Here are some creative tips on how to celebrate the coming Halloween holiday safely.

Celebrate Halloween in a Creative, Fun, and Safe Way

According to Science Alert, Halloween is the time when the cultural creativity of Americans comes in. From their costumes to house designs, Halloween 2020 will still be fun if infused with a little bit of creativity and making it fun for the kids.

Halloween is also the time to remember family members, friends, and acquaintances who passed away, and the time to share food, celebrate with the community, and appreciate each other. With that in mind, it is easy to reshape and reinvent the Halloween traditions to fit the time of the pandemic to celebrate it safely.

Here's a video by Dr Martha Blum of some options of non-traditional Halloween activities:

Decorate the House With Pumpkins and Host a Virtual Costume Party

Just like with the yearly Halloween celebrations, wear a costume, or put on something crazy like a wig or something and then invite family and friends to a virtual costume party. Make it fun by having a dance party, karaoke, or playing games.

Of course, it would be lacking if there are no Halloween decorations and carved pumpkins in the house. Hosting a pumpkin carving contest will also be a great idea.

Also, try to be creative with the decorations outside the house by making Halloween or horror creatures out of simple arts and crafts supplies to still feel the Halloween vibes even during the pandemic.

Halloween Treats

Instead of buying and giving the children candies this year, have your kids bake with you some treats like Halloween-themed cookies or cupcakes.

But if you must, make a game of hiding the candies and letting your kids find it. Give them a map of where the candies are with clues just like an Easter egg hunt or a game of pirates treasure hunting.

Make a Halloween Piñata

This is like an ordinary piñata but a Halloween-themed one. The Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula's (CHOMP) website said that kids could dress up in their Halloween costumes while hitting the piñata with a broom handle or a bat until the candies inside it fall out.

Children should take turns in hitting the piñata to give everyone a fair chance. Also, use recycled materials and art supplies to decorate a spooky piñata.

Ultimately, celebrating this year's holidays should still be fun even with the world's current situation. But make sure to follow the CDC's guidelines to be safe and healthy.
