It's confirmed that Microsoft will launch the Windows 10 sometimes later this year. This launch will aim at unifying Microsoft's desktop and smartphone operating systems. Most windows enthusiasts are eager to welcome this impeccable flagship with a clear anticipation that trendier windows smartphones will follow. Meanwhile, people still fancy a windows phone that is sleek yet affordable. To this end, Microsoft introduced the Lumia 640 and 640 XL on Monday at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. If you need a Windows device on a slightly tight budget, then this may be the one for you.

The Lumia 640 and 640XL will boast an affordable pricing despite having incredible features. With both phones sporting a processor speed of 1.2GHz in a Snapdragon 400 chip and with 1GB memory, the duo has attracted more attention from Windows lovers than their predecessors. To make things even more attractive, Microsoft is offering a one year subscription to Office 365 which normally would have you shell out $99.99.

According to ReadWrite, the only major difference between the Lumia 640 and 640 XL is size. Lumia 640 has a 5 inch display while the Lumia 640 XL comes with a 5.7-inch display. Of course the larger phone will cost slightly more than the other. The projected (3G) and (LTE) full retail price for the Lumia 640 is $159 and #179 respectively. For the Lumia 640 XL you will have it for $209 (3G) and $239 (LTE).While Lumia 640 has an 8 megapixel camera, 640XL comes with a sturdier camera capable of shooting up to 13 megapixel images. Notably, both phones have 1080p display.

Don't be tricked into believing that these phones are the main course. In fact, this is just the dessert to keep our appetite for Windows phones high. Plans to unveil the real deal by Microsoft are underway. It could probably come this year with the flagship unveiling of Windows 10.  However, in the meantime let's keep our appetite high as we enjoy the "snacks".

The Lumia 640 and 640 XL will launch this April with Windows 8.1installed. The good news, however, is that the phones will be ready for an upgrade when Windows 10 will finally hit the market.

The Lumias are a great option for budget shoppers. If you have a weightier wallet and are expecting a trendier Windows phone, then you should hold your horses. Odds are that a trendier, more intricate Windows device is in the pipeline and it will be worth the wait.
