A popular online video portrays a mother's love and compassion for her kid. An elephant herd is seen crossing a river to enter the jungle when one of the calves is swept away by the current of water. The mother elephant immediately acted to rescue her baby.

Mother Elephant Saves Calf Drowning in River

The first scene of the viral footage, posted by Indian IFS officer Parween Kaswan, depicts a herd of elephants crossing a river to enter a jungle.

"Mother elephant saving calf from drowning is the best thing you watch today. [The] video was shot near Nagrakata in North Bengal," Kaswan wrote in the caption of his post on Twitter. 

As the film went on, it became clear that a mother and her calf had become submerged and lost contact with their herd.

Later, the elephant was observed fighting to retain her calf. The mother and baby elephant were later seen walking toward the river bank together.

Many people were impressed with the mother's action of saving her calf. Many liked and retweeted the video.

There are other videos of elephants enjoying their natural habitat or in captivity that have been widely shared on social media, according to NDTV.

Before giving birth, elephant moms carry their young for over two years. Then they ensure their infants get the greatest nourishment, impart the most practical knowledge to their kids, and model how to take charge of the herd under trying circumstances.

The eldest female elephants may guide their herd hundreds of kilometers to water they last visited years ago during droughts when the animals' customary water sources dry up because they remember the places. Due to their long memory, elephant herds with older, bigger matriarchs perform better in emergencies.

Sometimes the water supply is gone, or development becomes a problem. Conservationists are learning more about elephant migrations by collaring them and following their whereabouts to safeguard the animals' water supplies and reduce human conflict.
