In a recent study, scientists discovered that lumpfish glow beneath UV light. They imagined the fish using their biofluorescent radiance to determine and assumedly talk with each other.

Lumpfish

Lumpfish are essentially detached creatures spending most of their lives on the seafloor. Described in The New York Times as "funny-looking fish," these species are latching onto rocks and seaweeds, using a modified pelvic fin on their underside acting like a suction cup to support them, hanging around until something tasty swims by.

Analysis Assistant Nathaniel Spada, from the Woods Gap Oceanographic Establishment in Massachusetts, who's also a part-time lumpfish influencer, said lumpfish is a "fairly clunky, awkward-looking fish."

Spada was not part of the study, published in the Fish Biology journal, although his Werner Herzog-inspired TikToks featuring the fish species in his laboratory have been considered thousands and thousands of instances.

He said he used to be not expecting to be as in style as it is, although he ought to have figured that they were "cool fish."


'Biofluorescence'

For one year, veterinarian Dr. Thomas Juhasz-Dora, also a doctoral pupil at the College Faculty Cork in Eire, grew to turn curious when he appeared into a lumpfish's bulging eyes in his lab and regarded a thought.

The veterinarian had observed biofluorescence in various marine species and wished he knew if his lumpfish had the trait.
