A weird video of a woman has gone viral on social media because many found it bizarre. The woman in the clip has a rare condition that links her eyelid and jaw, causing the former to droop when she eats.

Woman Suffers From Rare Marcus Gunn Phenomenon

A woman is making rounds on TikTok for her content where her eyes droop whenever she eats. Apparently, Mandy Bardisbanian, 33, suffers from a rare condition called Marcus Gunn Phenomenon, a genetic disorder where the nerves and muscles of the jaw are linked to her left eyelid, Daily Mail reported.

The woman from California admitted that the condition affected her self-esteem and even caused her to harm herself because bullies have been targeting her.

There are 300 people suffering from the rare condition, according to National Organization for Rare Disorders. However, Bardisbanian believes the condition is more than the literature suggests. She was convinced that there are 24, 000 cases.

The TikToker admitted that she was very insecure about her condition, but she has fully embraced it now. She recounted covering her eye with her hair to hide them. It was reportedly "incredibly hard" for her when she was a kid because the other children were so mean to her.

She admitted that the condition wasn't the worst thing one can have. However, it still sucks.

Woman Use Social Media To Raise Awareness About Marcus Gunn Phenomenon

Bardisbanian decided to use social media to raise awareness about the condition after seeing a video falsely claiming her condition was due to syphilis. In one video she uploaded on TikTok, she told the netizens that she would be showing them something they hadn't seen before.

Bardisbanian introduced her condition - Marcus Gunn Jaw Wink Syndrome (MGJWS). According to her, there was a nerve that was supposed to go to her ear, but it was connected to her eyelid, instead. So whatever her jaw does, her eyelid does the same.

She showed how her left eye reacted when she opened her mouth wide. She also demonstrated how she chews food and what happens to her eyes whenever she does it.

She added that MGJWS is a rare condition that even some doctors won't see in their entire careers and most people will live without meeting a single person with the said condition.

She left an encouraging message to those suffering from the same condition, telling them that they are beautiful and they aren't alone. She also urged others to think twice before commenting on a person when they observed something weird in them.

Bardisbanian has been uploading several videos of her eating to show people what happened whenever she eats.

What Is Marcus Gunn Jaw Wink Syndrome?

Machine Gunn phenomenon is a rare genetic disorder and it is present at birth. It is characterized by the movement of the upper eyelid in rapid rising motion each time the jaw moves. One with this condition may also suffer from other eye abnormalities and vision difficulties, according to National Organization Rare Disorders.

According to Daily Mail, it received the name in the late 1800s after a 15-year-old in England with the said condition was examined by a UK doctor named Marcus Gunn.
