Last week, SpaceX made its first attempt to launch Starship. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk still considered it a success despite the outcome. Aside from the boosters failing to separate from the shuttle, the futile launch caused a massive problem in the neighborhood.

SpaceX Starship Failed Launched Caused a Mess in Texas

A little city nearby was engulfed in a layer of grime as ash-like material fell from the sky. The enormous Starship rocket launched with such force that it tore a huge crater in the launchpad's foundation and sent a cloud of sand and soil six miles northwest to Port Isabel, Texas, where the company's launch facility is located, The Atlantic reported.

According to The New York Times, the launch also caused houses to shake and at least one window to break. However, there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage to public property.

Locals were informed about the launch. They knew that a large corporation was determined to build a spacecraft capable of traveling to both the moon and Mars lives nearby.

Furthermore, they knew the noise level because SpaceX had forewarned Cameron County residents. However, no one had informed the locals of the dusty drizzle.

According to SpaceX, an explosion's debris would be contained inside a 700-acre (about one square mile) radius, although the Texas division of the U.S. The Fish and Wildlife Service also said that a "plume cloud of pulverized concrete" dispersed debris miles beyond that area to Port Isabel.

Local environmental groups, which have long criticized SpaceX's operations, claim they are assessing the dust's possible effects on humans and wildlife. City officials claim the dust is not detrimental to human health.

According to Bloomberg, fish and wildlife officials reported yesterday that debris was strewn across 385 acres of SpaceX and state-owned property and even started a minor fire in a nearby state park. No reports of dead birds or other wildlife were made, they claimed.

SpaceX Starship's Trail of Destruction Captured

Louis Balderas of LabPadre.com was present during the launch. He set up a network of nine cameras across several local properties.

Balderas shared footage showing Starship passing its launch tower, and a few minutes into the flight, it started to spin after boosters failed to separate and soon burst into a ball of fire and smoke.

The region around the launch site was engulfed in smoke and dust. A van parked in the area suffered serious damages due to the debris shooting out in all directions. The powerful blast even blew away a few other pieces of camera equipment. Everything was covered in smoke and dust for around 90 seconds before the sky became visible again.

Starbase After the Failed Starship Launch

A week after the first launch trial, everyone at Starbase is business as usual. Musk said they would make another attempt in a month or two.

The following weeks will be spent by engineers combing over test data to learn for the upcoming attempt. Some residents might like to understand more about the potential effects on the neighborhood if another Starship starts tottering in the sky and shatters.

As Musk himself noted earlier this month, a rocket with 33 engines is like "a box of grenades." If SpaceX successfully launches rockets on Mars, it may one day be free to operate without worrying about its fictitious neighbors. It will be the only one in the entire craters. But SpaceX cannot avoid sharing that future's beginning here on Earth.
