Apple is joining the augmented reality world when it debuts its first headset at the annual World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC). CEO Tim Cook introduced Vision Pro at the live event Monday.

Apple Debuts First Augmented Reality Headset Vision Pro

Apple designed an AR headset with no need for controls. The headset enables users to seamlessly travel between the physical and digital worlds using only their hands, voice, and eyes.

A single, substantial band on the back of the head connects a sizable, svelte screen placed over the eyes in the Vision Pro. Cook said the headset will be available early next year at $3,499, Daily Mail reported.

Vision Pro offers you unlimited display. It runs on VisionOS, which the company claimed is the world's first spatial operating system. Apple calls it "spatial computing" as it mixes content into the space in the user's surroundings.

Mixed reality was rumored to be a part of the headgear, but Apple has only emphasized augmented reality.

Mike Rockwell, the Vice President of the Technology Development Group at Apple, said building their first spatial computer required invention across nearly every system facet.

They created the most powerful personal electronics device by tightly integrating hardware and software to create a standalone spatial computer with a small wearable form factor. To navigate the augmented experience, users will move their hands and eyes and vocalize certain commands.

According to Alan Dye, head of the human interface at Apple, users will use their eyes to choose material inside the goggles, tap two fingers together to click, and gently flick to scroll.

When a user is immersed in a virtual world, the outer screen of the Vision Pro device turns dark. When the device is used, signals are displayed to let people know the user is in an augmented reality (AR) environment.

When the user is in complete virtual mode, the headset will display the user and the outsider to one another.

According to Dye, the user would never feel alone because other users can see them, and they can see others.

To ensure every experience appears in front of the user's eyes in real time, the design includes a special Apple silicon in a unique dual-chip design and an ultra-high-resolution display system that packs 23 million pixels across two displays.
