On July 12, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced his plans to develop his artificial intelligence start-up.

An Alternative Chatbot Model

The company, called xAI, will be led by Musk in collaboration with researchers from companies such as Google Research, DeepMind, and Microsoft Research. It will be separate from Musk's other businesses, such as Twitter and Tesla. The new business venture has 12-strong team plans that aim to understand the universe's true nature. The director of the nonprofit Center for AI Safety, Dan Hendrycks, was appointed its advisor.

Musk hinted that he chose July 12, 2023, as the date of announcing the debut of xAi is connected to a science fiction classic, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams. In a Twitter post, Musk explained that adding the date 7-12-23 equals 42, which was famously postulated by the novel to be the answer to life.

In April, Musk teased his plans for his new AI venture, which rivals chatbot ChatGPT from OpenAI. As Musk said, he wanted to create a maximum truth-seeking AI which cares about understanding the universe. This announcement came months after Musk warned about the threat posed by machine-generated simulation of human intelligence.

Musk has a longstanding interest in AI and even supported its development in 2015, becoming an investor in OpenAI's private research laboratory. However, he resigned from the board in 2018 due to a conflict of interest with his work at Tesla.

In 2023, Musk joined a group of tech leaders who signed an open letter compelling to pause AI's ongoing development, which seems to get out of control. Musk believes human civilization faces a serious threat as humans show "benign dependency" on AI machines.

Some of the company's mission details are available on the xAI website, although it announces it is still actively recruiting staff. Currently, it is still unclear the amount of funding the entity has, the company's specific objective, and the kind of artificial intelligence it wants to focus on.

Truth-Seeking AI

Elon Musk believes that AI pioneer companies such as Google and OpenAI are not performing well regarding AI safety. With the bold intention to rival OpenAI's ChatGPT, Musk proposed an AI chatbot model to help users seek the ultimate truth. Known as TruthGPT, this groundbreaking development promises to transform the AI landscape.

In developing the pioneering chatbot, the company plans to harness the power of advanced AI algorithms to demonstrate potency and accuracy. Musk envisions that TruthGPT will be a remarkable AI-powered entity that can exceed the capabilities of its predecessors.

Moreover, the Tesla CEO asserts that his chatbot model can address the drawbacks associated with artificial intelligence. Existing AI entities have limitations that hinder their widespread acceptance in various industries. Using sophisticated design and intelligent programming, Musk aspires to the success of his truth-seeking AI model in reshaping the perception of AI within society.
