Writer Corinna Bechko and artist Danny Luckert released the first look of their major fall sci-fi project, "The Space Between." It will feature a deep-space adventure and the possibility of finding a new home aside from Earth.

What to Know About "The Space Between"

It's an absorbing, generation-spanning epic concerning the lives of valiant human voyagers inside an interstellar colony ship zooming toward a suitable exoplanet. They released a preview three months before its launch.

According to series editor Sophie Philips-Roberts in a press release, the project is a vast, sweeping epic that transcends science fiction in many ways. She can't wait for fans to watch the story develop on the Dodona because Bechko and Luckert have created something out of this world.

The story follows the populations of laborers on the ark known as the Dodona, who live in rigidly divided social castes throughout the lengthy journey. However, everything changes when Les and Revla, a pilot from the upper layer, meet in the lower levels. The pair gets closer and realizes that they must risk everything to save future generations and themselves on the Dodona.

One of the interesting things here is that every issue of Boom! Studio's event series focuses on a different pair of heroes as they face off against the struggles of each new generation. The sci-fi epic is centered on love, survival, and emancipation.

In an official statement, Bechko said she felt lucky to pen the narrative of romance and revolution alongside Luckert. She added that the saying about life is what happens while you're busy making other plans may be true. However, she also wondered, what if those other plans were established long before you were born? She is thrilled and couldn't wait for people to read "The Space Between" and learn the answer!

Luckert was as excited as Bechko about the project. According to him, the writer created a "fully fleshed out environment," and it was his pleasure for him to help her bring those ideas to life.

Boom! Studios' "The Space Between #1" will be released on Nov. 1, 2023. The main cover features Luckert's work with variants from other artists, including David Mack and Ariel Olivetti.

Space Tourism

While Bechko's book features the lives of home voyagers looking for a new home, space tourism has made major progress. Earlier this month, Virgin Galactic made history after it successfully brought three civilians into space on Aug. 10. The passengers included 80-year-old former Olympian from the United Kingdom, Jon Goodwin, and mother and daughter, Keisha Schahaff and Anastatia Mayers,

Goodwin purchased his ticket for $250,000 in 2005 and waited nearly two decades for the flight. Schahaff won two tickets to join the Virgin Galactic voyage.

Schahaff said the experience was beautiful and felt a "total connection." Her daughter said it was "so deep within yourself" and even likened the feeling to what one thinks of someone they love "so truly."

The mother and daughter duo are the first female Caribbean astronauts from Antigua. Schahaff believed that the women from the island would feel unstoppable after the encounter. She wished kids would understand that it was acceptable to fantasize and to have "crazy dreams."
