In the 1950s and 60s, drive-in movie theaters with roller-skating staff and lined with polished cars were incredibly popular. These theaters declined as VHS tapes made home viewing more common, yet they remain nostalgic for the era of enjoying films in cars. Elon Musk's initiative might bring about a revival.

Musk's approval for an all-night Tesla diner, encompassing a drive-in cinema and charging station, could rejuvenate this trend. The establishment will boast two 45-foot LED screens constantly displaying iconic movie clips.

Tesla's Plans To Build an All-Night Diner in L.A.

It has been five years since Musk shared his idea of making a Tesla restaurant. Finally, in 2022, this project has made progress by submitting plans to the City of Los Angeles for a new 24-hour Hollywood diner, a charging station for electric vehicles, and a movie theater.

Musk first tweeted about an "old school drive-in roller skates & rock restaurant" in 2018 and now materializes it with detailed architectural blueprints. The proposed 9,300-square-foot establishment, set on Santa Monica Boulevard, aims to replace a Shakey's Pizza outlet, introducing competition near Trejos Coffee & Donuts and McDonald's.

While the documents do not specify, Musk has confirmed Dogecoin payment options. The venue's appearance may echo Tesla's futuristic gigafactories, potentially incorporating the automaker's patented restaurant logo.

This year, the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety granted Tesla permission to construct a Diner and Drive-In Movie Supercharger in West Hollywood.

What Will Be in Tesla's 24-Hour Diner?

Musk envisions allowing people to enjoy glimpse or even watch movies while they eat and wait for their car to charge at one of the 28 supercharging stations. His design concept blends a retro-futuristic style, described as a fusion of 'Grease' and 'The Jetsons' with the convenience of Supercharging.

Tesla has released technical blueprints for the proposed drive-in, slated for construction on Hollywood's Santa Monica Boulevard. While official artistic representations are pending, enthusiasts like architect Ed Howard have taken the initiative to create their own visualizations, including 3D renders.

These depictions showcase a diner resembling a spaceship, complete with a spacious rooftop terrace, evoking a nostalgic 1950s Americana ambiance.

Following approval from the city of Los Angeles, the construction of the new Tesla facility is poised to commence. The upcoming venue will offer both indoor and outdoor seating options, with future patrons having the option to make payments using the cryptocurrency Dogecoin after the establishment's completion.

Musk had previously indicated the possibility of Tesla-branded diners emerging near charging stations. In the past year, Tesla took steps towards this venture by filing for three trademarks linked to potential involvement in the restaurant industry.

Initially intended for Santa Monica, Tesla's diner plans shifted to Hollywood, situated along the iconic Route 66. The upcoming establishment involves the removal of a Shakey's Pizza Parlor from the current location to make way for the new diner.
