Fitness Influencer Warns About Fatigue After Being Diagnosed With Deadly Cancer He Initially Mistook as Burnout Symptoms

A fitness influencer was diagnosed with a deadly cancer. He warned the others to be aware of their health as he initially thought the symptoms were due to burnout because he was at the peak of his physical condition.

Influencer Warns About Cancer Diagnosis, Health

A fitness guru from Atlanta, Georgia, named Lee Troutman, was diagnosed with late-stage non-Hodgkin's lymphoma last year after experiencing night sweats, exhaustion, and liver pain. At his diagnosis, Troutman, who was 20 years old, spent 12 hours a day exercising and instructing clients in fitness.

He could not move, speak, or swallow when the cancer was discovered. In just two months, he had also shed half his body weight.

He was initially identified as having mononucleosis, or "mono," brought on by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), when he saw the doctor for the first time in October 2021.

Then, following several medical tests, he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), an immune response that can cause organs to shut down.

Troutman had a serious situation. His brain's four lobes, the brain stem, the spine, the liver, the ribs, and the hips had all developed cancer.

He figures he received at least 50 blood and platelet transfusions and more chemotherapy sessions than he can count. Troutman finally received a bone marrow transplant from an unidentified donor in May 2022.

Following the procedure, he was placed in confinement for 200 days while taking 63 medications daily to prevent the transplant from being rejected. According to Troutman, the physicians did not think he would live.

Troutman is one of many young people who have received a cancer diagnosis in recent years; this pattern, which doctors are still trying to comprehend, is on the rise.

What Is Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the lymph system. It is a type of cancer that forms in the lymph system.

The lymph system is part of the immune system. It helps protect the body from infection and disease.

Lymph tissue is also found in other parts of the body, such as the lining of the digestive tract, bronchus, and skin. There are two general types of lymphomas - Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The latter grows and spreads at different rates and can be indolent or aggressive.

Indolent lymphoma grows and spreads slowly and has few signs and symptoms. Aggressive lymphoma grows and spreads quickly and has signs and symptoms that can be severe. The treatments for indolent and aggressive lymphoma are different.

Although it can happen anywhere in the body, the first symptom is typically enlarged lymph nodes in the neck. Other signs and symptoms of non-Hodgkin lymphoma include swollen lymph nodes, fever, drenching night sweats, unexplained weight loss, and persistent fatigue.
