Microsoft has finally decided to adopt marketing strategies like its two biggest competitors, Google and Apple in an effort to take the leaders head on and expand its market presence. The company also hopes that the Windows 10 update will return the spotlight back to the company.

Chris Capossela speaking at the Microsoft Convergence conference held in Atlanta stated that the tech giants Google and Apple Inc have a marketing advantage owing to the strong interconnectivity between their products. He also added that the two are doing a fantastic job at interconnecting the products and said that "Microsoft is aiming at adopting this approach in a big way."

He also noted that Microsoft has had success in the past at interconnecting products citing the ability of the Surface Pro 3 pen to open OneNote, and the integration of Microsoft's Bing into the Cortana digital assistant.

Despite these successes, the road remains long for the company as it continues to lose market share with its flagship products, the operating system and the web browser. The company has continued to lose ground to Apple with its iOS system and its web browser has taken a severe beating from the likes of Google's Chrome browser, which is now the most preferred browser.

The software company has failed to launch a competitive product since Windows 7 was first introduced and times have been so tough for its web browser, Internet Explorer, that Microsoft has announced that a newly designed browser designed to connect better with modern devices will be rolled out with Windows 10 while IE will be relegated to a secondary roll to support legacy applications still in use by companies.

Despite these plans, many experts still question the viability of Microsoft's freemium strategy that it has adopted as of late. Capossela used the opportunity to further explain this system and the companies strategy, which is focused on distributing its product to wider audiences while earning revenue from those that want and/or need extra features.

Microsoft plans to offer users of Windows 7 and Windows 8 upgrades even if their existing copies aren't genuine although those copies will remain illegitimate.

In an effort to increase the user base of MS Office, the company already offers it for free on both iOS and Android Devices, betting that this offering will only benefit their business and help boost sales of its subscription and stand alone versions alike. However, many believe that as the company releases more of these types of products, user expectations of further releases with expanded features will only continue to rise.
