Ozempic is a popular weight loss pill among celebrities. However, according to a new report, a new capsule could rival it.

Vibrating Pill Is The Next Ozempic?

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have created a pill the size of a multivitamin that deceives the stomach into believing it is complete. In animal studies, pigs given the tablet 20 minutes before mealtime generally consumed 40% less food than the control group.

Although the gadget has not yet been tested on humans, the researchers claim it has a "profound" impact on hunger and may provide a means of "controlling appetite or losing weight." It also allegedly did not cause any negative symptoms that Ozempic causes, such as nausea and vomiting.

According to Dr. Shriya Srinivasan, a bioengineering graduate from the university, those who want to lose weight could take the vibrating pill before each meal to suppress one's appetite.

"This could be really interesting in that it would provide an option that could minimize the side effects that we see with the other pharmacological treatments out there," she added.

Currently, a new capsule would be needed after every meal. However, scientists claim they are also developing a version that may be wirelessly activated and remain in the stomach.

After being swallowed, the gadget makes its way to the stomach, where it is turned on. Initially, it has a gelatinous covering broken down by the stomach's acid, which opens the circuit and causes the stomach to vibrate.

Consequently, the stomach wall's mechanoreceptors are activated. Usually, they only happen when the stomach distends or expands following a substantial meal.

However, the vibrations deceive them into believing that their stomach has already grown. They communicate with the brain through the vagus nerve, causing the organ to release the hormones signifying satiety and suppressing appetite.

Ozempic Benefits Aside From Weight Loss

Ozempic, popular among Hollywood celebrities for weight loss, offers other health benefits. The medicine could reportedly help with heart failure symptoms.

Semaglutide, sold under the brands Ozempic and Wegovy, improves heart health in addition to helping people manage their diabetes and lose weight. For those who are overweight and have heart issues, it might enhance their quality of life. It is said that decreasing body weight will alleviate fatigue and edema, two common signs of heart failure.

During a year, a weekly injection of semaglutide reduced edema, dyspnea, and fatigue in over 500 individuals with heart failure and obesity across 13 nations. They also saw a discernible improvement in their physical prowess and ability to work out.

However, another study from Chinese researchers warned users of the potentially fatal side effects of Wegovy and Ozempic. They said that using those medications may cause the small intestines to expand, increasing the possibility of a fatal intestinal obstruction.

When the drugs were tested on mice, the researchers saw that the animals' intestines increased after 20 months of treatment. Although Wegovy's clinical trials were only 16 months long, the researchers noted that this was four weeks too short to identify long-term adverse effects.
