Carafem is a new abortion clinic opening in Washington D.C that guarantees a 'spa like feel'. With natural wood floors, fluffy clothes and tea on entry, Carafem looks more like a spa than an abortion clinic. "Abortion. Yeah, we do that" is the slick ads set across metro stations in Washington region.

This new clinic opens this week in Montgomery County's Friendship Heights area. This clinic is attempting to de-stigmatize the most controversial medical procedure of the nation currently.

The president and founder of Carafem, Christopher Purdy said that he was inspired to open this clinic after he spent more than a decade in developing countries promoting HIV prevention and family planning. He also said that in places like Ethiopia, it is much easier to get an abortion done. It is like entering a pharmacy there.

According to the Washington Post, in the United States there are more than 200 laws which restrict the controversial procedure. Due to this many clinics have closed.

In Carafem the abortion will be done only through pharmaceutical. There will be no vacuum aspiration or surgical procedures. So the clients entering have to be less than 10 weeks pregnant. Not purchasing the surgical instrument has helped Purdy slash the price by $100. The whole procedure in Carafem costs about $400 ($100 less than the average pharmaceutical abortion cost).

Clients entering Carafem will first receive counselling and will have to go through basic tests before starting the procedure. The whole process will take about an hour. The second set of pills will have to be taken the next day at home.

"Clear, non-judgmental and accurate information so you feel confident" quoted  Carafem  about its staff on the website. "We are an experienced team with years of experience in abortion care" it added.

The best thing about Carafem is that they treat abortion as a fact and not as what the world thinks it to be.
