Android is currently the most widely used mobile operating system, not only it is user-friendly but provides a vast array of apps as well. The current version Android 7.0 Nougat hasn't fully rolled out to all compatible devices yet google is already teasing its next iteration codenamed "O" which as per rumors stands for the cookie "Orio".

According to Phone Arena, the prime topic of discussion among the android lovers is the name of the next version. Hiroshi Lockheimer, SVP of Android, Chrome OS and Play, hinted at the Android version 8.0 being named after the cookie "Orio" in a recently tweeted GIF of a delicious looking cake made of "Oreo" cookies. The exact name may be revealed in the beginning of March, given Google's regular schedule remains unchanged.

Prior to this, Lockheimer has "leaked" a few names which eventually did not make it to the official release for some reasons and this is why many people are skeptical about taking the "Orio" hint seriously. There has been a tremendous curiosity among the faithful, though, regarding the new features that Android 8.0 version will bring irrespective of the name it will carry.

According to India Today, it is like a hobby for Lockheimer to swing around with names of the new versions of Android before its official launch. Last year also, he tweeted that the Android 7.0 version will be named after "Nutella", which eventually turned out to be "Nougat". Some point towards the fact that there might be an issue of copyright infringement as well while using the desired names.

Google has always named its Android OS versions after sweets, except for the first two that were called the Android Alpha and Android Beta, according to the Alphabets. There is a good possibility for the next version to be named after "Oreo" though, as there are not many sweets that begin with the letter "O".

Interestingly, apart from "Oreo" Lockheimer also hashtagged #2018 to a photo of Japanese sweet named "Pocky" that he tweeted last week. Whatever the final name of Android 8.0 turns out to be, one thing is sure, the announcement is around the corner.
