San Diego will become America's smartest city after more than 3,000 hi-tech street lamps will be installed. The mayor proudly announced that the city's streetlamps will be revamped.

There will be 3,200 smart sensors on San Diego's streetlamps, Mayor Kevin Faulconer said. San Diego city will be partnering with GE and will work on a project solely for San Diego only. NBC San Diego has reported that GE and AT&T will be installing streetlamps with cameras, streetlamps with sensors and streetlamps with microphones. San Diego will have one of the biggest 'Internet of Things' projects in the world, according to the city.

The streetlamps can detect gunshots, traffic, the number of people and many other things. There will also be more $30 million GE LED lighting upgrade. More $30 million that is equivalent to 14,000 street lights will be placed in San Diego, Mail Online stated.

"We are thrilled to expand Current's relationship with AT&T to help cities redefine the civic engagement model-our digital network is based on an open platform, which allows entrepreneurs, incubators and students to get involved in the future development smart city applications," said John Gordon, Chief Digital Officer of Current, powered by General Electric (GE).

AT&T has commercially worked many times before with municipalities. Their technology is perfect for helping cities develop their electronics and industrial places. This project will start many other opportunities and will help San Diego improved in many aspects.

Internet of Things will be the main thing to work on this project. AT&T has revealed in 2016 the framework for Smart Cities project. They will be helping cities build a mutual relationship with them, helping each other and benefitting from each other. Cities like Atlanta, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Chicago, Dallas, Georgia Institute of Technology, Miami-Dade County and Montgomery County, Maryland have started to use the framework of the said project. AT&T wants to do this project to more cities, universities and municipalities in the future.
