Employers nowadays are more concerned with health, intelligence, and personality of their workers, a recent study show. Outgoing employees and those who are expressive, emotionally stable and conscientious are the highest earners.

According to Mail Online, the study disproved the stigma that "ugly people are paid less" including some discrimination in the work field. The study was carried out by scientists from the London School of Economics together with the University of Massachusetts.

Previous studies showed that there is a great impact of "beauty" with wages wherein workers with attractive looks are paid more compared to average people. However, the recent research revealed that there are many factors surrounding the stigma.

The researchers have utilized a sample population particularly, workers form the United States. The analysis was done through rating according to; intelligence, health and attractiveness. The results were then extracted, and the relationship between the surrounding factors was revealed.

Inside character and attitude conquers outside looks and beauty. Workers that are physically attractive get a higher salary not because they are beautiful but because they possess a great character possessed by a capable worker. These character includes; health, intelligence, being extroverted and being more conscientious,  as stated by Satoshi Kanazawa, the co-author of the study.

Meanwhile, BBC tackled ways on how to get a high and deserved salary hike. The first thing to do is to do a research; research potential employers, study the market rate of work and expertise. Additional tips also includes being empathetic with employers, proving awesomeness, being assertive and realistic, and emotionally stable.

The research on the other hand has resulted to a surprising fact. Participants who are labeled as "unattractive" earns more compared to workers who are way "beautiful and attractive". The researchers considered their findings to have important implications in organizational behavior. Discrimination affects not just the harmony among workers but also the productivity and efficiency of the whole team.
