President Trump's action to threaten the withdrawal of the United States from the Paris agreement on climate change has brought uncertainty in the global initiative against climate change. Meanwhile, the UN Secretary-General said that the climate action is necessary.

Many parties have speculated whether President Trump will withdraw the United States from the COP21, the Paris agreement on climate change. Many have been pessimistic that President Trump will pull out U.S. from the COP 21 as reported by Washington Times.

In respond to the speculation of U.S. withdrawal from the Paris agreement on climate change, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called for a sustained action to meet the global challenge. According to the news release from the United Nations, Guterres spoke to the students, business leaders and academics at the New York University Stern School of Business on Tuesday, May 30.

“It is absolutely essential that the world implements the Paris Agreement," Secretary General Guterres said mentioning the Paris agreement on climate change. "The effects of climate change are dangerous and they are accelerating."

The Paris agreement on climate change was signed on Dec. 21, 2015 by 195 nations. The participating countries, including the Unites States, agreed to a fulfill the commitment to keep the global temperature rise below 2 degrees Celsius in this century.

However, many people are skepticism with the Paris agreement of climate change. One of the renown skeptics is a Danish professor and a former director of Environmental Assessment Institute (EAI) in Copenhagen, Bjørn Lomborg, who has been a critic of climate change since the Kyoto Protocol 1997.

According to Ljomborg, the Paris agreement on climate change did not address the issue of climate change from the right angle, therefore it will have no effect. He said the implementation of the Paris agreement on climate change that cost at least $1 trillion a year will not change the climate at all.
