As there is no total cure to back pain experience, people turn to pills and chiropractic treatments. Experts then seek to find out which of the two is better.

According to Web MD, chiropractors perform spinal manipulation as people experiencing back pain pays for chiropractic services. "We're trying to take joints in your spine that have become too stiff and give them back their normal motion again," said William Lauretti, a spokesman for the American Chiropractic Association.

National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke then reported that lower back pain occurs out of four in five persons. Its downside is making a person destabilized, less productive and have the tendency to miss their work.

"Spinal manipulation is one of those therapies that on average has a small effect, and it's in your doctor's bag of things you can pull out and try," Dr. Paul Shekelle, chief of general internal medicine at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System said. The study’s lead author then stated that the effects of spinal manipulation were found similar to back painkiller drugs such as Tylenol and Advil, based on a 2008 Cochrane review.

Nonetheless, Lauretti shared that a session with a chiropractor would cost around $75 and $200. He then estimated further that following visits may cost up to $30 to $70. After stating that he followed up that on the other hand, pills for back pain are much more widely available and cheaper. On the contrary, it has side effects when taken in long-term or in high doses, experts reveal per WYFF 4.

However, the American College of Physicians (ACP) released guidelines on how to relieve back pain. They had suggested to not take in drugs at first but instead do heat wraps, acupuncture, massage, exercise and spinal manipulation instead. Researchers then found out that nothing is effective to totally soothe the pain. Shekelle then concluded that time is the best solution but it is important for people experiencing back aches to be active amid the pain to speed the recovery process.
