As the eyes are called windows to the soul, some experts reveal that they could learn health risks by looking into the color of a person’s eyes. However, there are some disease symptoms that could not be identified through the color of the eyes or has no link at all.

According to Refinery 29, Ruth Williams, MD stated that people who have light colored eyes like blue, green, or gray tend to have a high risk for cancer. Developing age-related macular degeneration was also mentioned to possibly be the health related disease for dark eyed people. But, it was identified that their cataract and vitiligo risks are low.

Contrary to that, dark eyed people with colors like brown or hazel are most likely to develop cataracts. It was also mentioned that developing vitiligo is possible. Compared to the people who has light colored eyes, dark eyes have the opposite result of having less risk in less developing skin cancer and macular degeneration.

Furthermore, the last category of eye color is that changes. An example was cited to be a sudden change of the eyes to a red color which means irritation, infection, or allergies. It was also shared that a change of the eye’s white into the color yellow means it is an indication of jaundice. In which, the person is advised to seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, CNN reported that the there are cases that people see brown eyes instead of blue. Yet, it was stated all people has the eye color brown. The reason was then identified to be melanin as stated by Dr. Gary Heiting, a licensed optometrist.

"It's an interaction between the amount of melanin and the architecture of the iris itself, Heiting explained. He also noted that melanin is naturally dark brown that only changes color due to absorbing light. Hence, the color of the eyes depends on how much light its melanin absorbs.

In addition to that, it was said that some babies have blue eyes due to their melanin in formation stage but could get darker as time passes by. Nonetheless, as some serious health disease doesn’t show symptoms related to the eyes, it was advised that people should ask their doctors for any health related problems.
