The Consumer Product Safety Commission has recently announced the recall of iPhone cases containing glittery liquid. The decision came after recent reports of skin burning due to that substance emerged.
According to the CPSC, the liquid and glitter inside these iPhone cases can leak out and cause skin irritation or skin burning. Reports say MixBin Electronics distributed these iPhone cases. These cases were available at several retail outlets, like Nordstrom Rack, Victoria's Secret, Amazon, Henri Bendel, MixBin, and Tory Burch. Consumers bought it from October 2015 to June 2017.
The cost of these iPhone cases was between $15 to $65. The number of the iPhone cases sold in the U.S. was 263,000, and in Canada, it was 11,500. Meanwhile, the number of the sold cases in Mexico was 400.
The iPhone cases were prepared for the iPhone 7, iPhone 6, and 6s, Live Science reported. Now the MixBin Electronics recalls all these iPhone cases due to the risk of skin burns. Recent reports suggest that above 260,000 such iPhone cases have been recalled.
The iPhone cases have a floating liquid sparkling mixture. If the cases break and the said sparkling substance leaks out, then it can result in chemical burn and also the skin irritation. According to the Business Insider, the government agency has so far reported 24 cases that show injury by these iPhone cases. Notably, 19 of the 24 cases are specified in the U.S.
One person even suffered permanent scarring as a result of the chemical burn. Another consumer reportedly has chemical burns and swelling to her hands, face, upper body, chest, neck, and legs. Persons who have purchased these iPhone cases should not use them anymore.
The MixBin Electronics has already developed a website for the consumers to register for the refund. The consumers who possess these iPhone cases should contact the company immediately. After approval of the claims, the company will provide instructions to the users so that they can know how to properly dispose of their case.
