You might not be aware that during the Cold War, when the United States and Russia were constantly at odds, Moscow constructed what was known as the "nuclear train."

For more than 50 years, the Soviet Union and the United States were engaged in a nuclear weapons race that almost resulted in the extinction of the human race.

To fend off one another, both countries built a variety of missiles and nuclear submarines. Still, the Soviet Union, according to the Daily Star, supposedly got even more inventive.

The USSR supposedly built an RT 23 Molodets during the 1980s, known as a "nuclear ghost train" that was essentially undetected.

According to legend, the train was moving almost 1,000 miles daily to evade notice.

This supposedly helped the USSR trick the US into believing it had located every nuclear launch location.

Additionally, it was purportedly planned to destroy the whole coastline United States, if necessary.

Nuclear Ghost Train: How It Looks Like

The Soviet Union had built it to resemble any other passenger train in Russia then, so even if it did exist, the United States would have had trouble finding it, Found and Explained mentioned.

According to reports, the train included the usual three engines, three launch wagons, and four railcars.

But in addition, three ICBM nuclear missiles were purportedly included on this nuclear ghost train.

A single USSR command could send warheads into the air in a matter of minutes because the train was said to have enough supplies to last for a total of 28 days.

According to Found and Explained, they could even supposedly use a "cold launch" to fire the missiles from the train.

This indicates that the missiles are launched into the air by pressurized gas before they are ignited.

In any case, the nuclear ghost train only existed during the Cold War.

More About The Secret Project

In 1969, the covert project got underway. The first line-up initially emerged in the 1980s. The Nuclear Ghost Train was driven across every climate zone, from the taiga to the desert, 18 times.

Production began after it rolled 400 thousand kilometers, reports mentioned. Each of the three special missile divisions in the USSR in 1989 had four trains for 36 launchers.

Additionally, they sought to develop a comparable system in the USA so that the train's progress could not be traced.

The United States lost yet still came out on top. On the wave of trusting relations with Russia in the 1990s, they argued on the destruction of rocket trains and accelerated their disposal.

They helped with money, brought technologically advanced machines, created a "cutting" line at one of the factories: it evolved into the point of no return for the Soviet "Well Done."
