Researchers are now working for automating scientific discovery using artificial intelligence. Humans know the power of computers which has been proved invaluable to science from the historical times till date. In history, calculations were performed by machines which made it an easy task. In recent times, data mining has been discovered for having a relation between painkiller use and incidence of heart attacks.

According to Communication of the ACM magazine, after having so much computer usage for helping scientific discovery, now computer scientists are working to find a more logical step, i.e. taking the help of machines for running experiments or teaching machines for conducting experiments just like artificial intelligence. Computers will be used to make inferences from the data in an experiment, using the results in performing new experiments.

One group of scientists, from Cornell and Vanderbilt colleges and CFD Research Corporation, made a critical stride toward that path when they revealed a year ago that a program of theirs had possessed the capacity to take care of a complex biological issue. They concentrated on glycolysis, the metabolic procedure by which cells-yeast, for this situation-separate sugars to create vitality.
