A new research found a more efficient and environmentally friendly way for broadcast networks to transmit energy. This study says that by setting up the spatially adaptive broadcast system, broadcast energy consumption can be lowered up to 35%; this will be reducing carbon emissions and save money.

Broadcast networks operate with excessive transmit energy; however, this excessive energy usage benefits neither the broadcaster nor the viewer. A research conducted by engineers at the University of Bristol showed that the energy efficiency of a broadcast network could be improved if the broadcaster enhances the signal strength and the directivity of the broadcast transmission in real time.

A spatially adaptive broadcast system allows broadcasters to adjust the geographical scope from the transmitter based on what is the real-time happening onto the radio frequency emissions. This happening is the same thing to cellular networks; according to informIT, mobile networks adapt to location and needs of its users.

Mobile phones are able to increase their energy efficiency and battery life due to their constant change in location. This allows the mobile phones to adjust the transmit power based on their location and its distance to the base station.

One of the biggest transitions that happened in the modern time is switching from analog from digital TV broadcasting. Analog TV transmits signals in a manner similar to radio, so location is important; while Digital TV transmits signals as data or program. The signal quality is not affected by the location related to the transmitter power output, as reported by the Lifewire.

Digital broadcast TV works only on a one-way nature where data only comes from the broadcaster to the viewer. However, if broadcasters are able to optimize the transmission in real time, this will highly improve the energy efficiency.

This research proved that more improvements with the broadcast network could use lesser electricity consumption while maintaining the same level of service. Once it's done, it could reduce carbon emissions, which are good for the environment, and could bring significant financial savings.
