During this age of information, the rise of influencer marketing has been quite noticeable. Many are now making a living in front of a camera. This would come with particular needs such as equipment and talent. Another important element that could be a big factor in growing a fanbase is having a presentable image. Even if most influencers can maintain a good appearance by using make-up, dermatologists point out that having a good appearance can be achieved with fewer cosmetics involved, adding that glowing skin is the only thing influencers would need.
Dermatologists shared five expert tips in maintaining a naturally glowing skin for everybody, influencer or not. Of course, the basic skincare routine should always be remembered as well. The essential skincare routine should include regularly washing one's face and moisturizing. In some instances, these two steps could be all that a person would need. However, the following five steps would promote not only healthy but also glowing skin.
The first point that dermatologists constantly draw attention to is the use of sunscreen. Shari Lipner, M.D., a dermatologist at Cornell Medicine and New York-Presbyterian recommends the daily use of a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. The dermatologist also pointed out that aside from glowing skin, sunscreen is one way to prevent skin cancer, wrinkles, and sunspots.
Second, dermatologists encourage following an exfoliation routine. However, the experts warned that people should be conscious about which routine works for their skin. This is because not all skin exfoliation routines could benefit every skin type. Most dermatologists recommend chemical exfoliators which are gentler to the skin as compared to physical exfoliators. Binh Ngo, M.D., a clinical associate professor of dermatology in Krek School of Medicine USC, recommends products that contain alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) and beta-hydroxy acid (BHA). To differentiate, ingredients such as glycolic acid and lactic acid are those that are included in the AHA category, while salicylic belong to the BHA category.
The third skincare tip to remember is to add an antioxidant to the daily skincare routine. Susan Obagi, MD, the director of the UPMC Cosmetic Surgery and Skin Health Center explains that free radicals are formed when the skin is exposed to sunlight. This can cause oxidative stress and could damage the skin. Skincare products that have antioxidants can clean out the free radicals and minimize the damage to the cells.
The fourth point raised by dermatologists is using vitamin A rich products. Emily Newsom, MD, a board-certified dermatologist at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center explains that vitamin A-related compounds, such as retinoid, play an important role in brightening the skin and giving it a nice glow.
The last tip that experts are keen to reiterate is for people to pay attention to their individual skin needs. Jamie MacKelfresh, MD, an associate professor in the department of dermatology at Emory University School of Medicine, points out the importance of knowing what works for an individual's own skin. This can help in finding the right products that could promote skin health and natural glow. The doctor pointed out that extra moisturizer and holding back on the exfoliation to achieve a healthy glow could work for those with dry or sensitive skin. However, if an individual has oily skin, gentle exfoliation is most effective.
Still, as most people are not sure of what to purchase for their skin, it is always recommended to seek guidance from certified dermatologists. After all, healthy and glowing skin is a good investment for influencers or viewers alike.
