A Filipino fisherman had the biggest surprise after hauling a massive fish that he could sell for nearly $1,500.

Giant Blue Marlin Caught in Balabac Seas

Mark Jun Ruta, a 30-year-old fisherman, was surprised when he withdrew the hook-and-line from the Balabac seas in Palawan on Feb. 22. He told Palawan News that he was surprised and thrilled when he saw how massive the fish was. Ruta hauled a 270-kilogram blue marlin.

He added that it was the first time he had captured a fish as big as that because his previous catches were only between 100 to 100 kilograms. He said it's very rare to find such a catch.

Ruta and his six companions had difficulty hauling the fish onto their boat due to its size, but they managed. The group immediately delivered their catch to Puerto Princesa.

Their hard work paid off because the gigantic blue marlin was reportedly sold for $5.07 to $5.44 per kilo, so they probably made $1,468 from it, according to Coconuts Manila.

Ruta uploaded some photos of his massive catch on Facebook. The blue marlin was so huge that it was bigger than Ruta.

In the pictures, Ruta posed beside the giant fish, appearing small beside it. He was visibly overjoyed with their catch and even hugged it in one shot.

Several netizens reacted to the photo, acknowledging how big his catch was. Many couldn't believe its massive size.

A number of netizens also congratulated Ruta. Some complimented them, saying it was a "good job."

Remains of a Missing Man Found Inside a Shark

Elsewhere, in Argentina, the remains of a missing man were found inside a shark captured by local fishermen. Diego Barria's family identified his body due to a distinct tattoo, Fox News reported.

Barria, 32, was last seen near the coast in the southern Chubut province riding his all-terrain vehicle on Feb. 18, according to The Associated Press. An extensive search began after his damaged ATV was found without any signs of him on Feb. 20.

On Sunday morning, two local fishermen contacted the coast guard after noticing three school sharks near the area where Barria's ATV was found. According to them, when they were cleaning the sharks, they found human remains in one of them. It remains unclear how the 5-foot shark attacked Barria.

Daniela Millatruz, the law enforcement officer in charge of the search, speculated that Barria had an accident and was dragged into the area. Millatruz said they are still investigating if there was a vehicle involved.

Cristian Ansaldo, with the Comodoro Rivadavia Police Department, added that there was a strong tidal surge the weekend Barria disappeared.

The remains found are set to undergo DNA testing.
