A waitress lost her job, and a cafe had to temporarily stop its operation due to what the former did. According to a report, the Japanese waitress mixed her blood into their customers' cocktails without them knowing it.

Japanese Cafe Fires Waitress for Mixing Blood With Cocktails

Mondaiji Con Cafe Daku in Sapporo, Hokkaido, whose name translates to "Problem Child Concept Cafe," issued a public apology after one of its employees mixed her blood with their customers' drinks. The cafe fired the waitress for what it did, noting that serving bloody concoctions was "absolutely not acceptable." However, it did not name the employee it fired, Daily Mail reported.

The Mondaiji Con Cafe Daku owner also said they must close temporarily following the gory controversy. The owner asked the customers to give them another chance so that they could continue their operation.

The restaurant will hire a contractor to clean the entire place, dispose of its alcoholic beverages that may have been contaminated, and change glasses. The owner was very apologetic for the trouble they caused their customers. As for what the employee did, the owner said it was a "part-time job terrorism."

Why It's Not Safe To Drink Blood?

Drinking blood is not advisable, yet some do it. For instance, celebrity couple Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly confessed to drinking each other's blood.

The "Jennifer's Body" star told Glamour UK it was for ritual purposes. She clarified that unlike what they saw on "Game of Thrones," they only consume a few drops.

However, doctors don't recommend drinking blood. Daily Mail noted that Dr. Zento Kitao spoke with Japan's Flash new site and called out those who visited the cafe, suggesting they should take a blood test.

He explained that getting infected from drinking another person's blood is rare. However, what's concerning is that serious diseases can be transmitted through blood, including HIV, hepatitis C, hepatitis B, and syphilis. He added that those with wounds in the mouth could be infected by blood transmission.

Healthline added that drinking animal or human blood poses risks to one's health as one can contract bloodborne diseases.

In vampire literature, ingesting human or animal blood is considered haute cuisine. But it poses serious health dangers and has no proven health advantages. It is not safe to consume raw blood.

Consuming large amounts of uncooked blood could be deadly, especially if the blood wasn't drawn hygienically. Consuming more blood than a small amount could raise your risk of infection and other ailments because blood is prone to bacterial growth.

Effects of Drinking Blood on Our Bodies

Iron concentrations in blood are quite high, and the body has trouble excreting extra iron. Combining the two results in an iron overdose is problematic.

People need iron to survive. Red blood cells, which transport oxygen throughout the body, require a specific amount to be produced. However, too much iron can lead to a condition called hemochromatosis, which can also cause more health issues such as follows, according to Labmate.

  •  Liver damage
  •  Fluid build-up in the lungs
  •  Dehydration
  •  Low blood pressure
  •  Nerve problems
  •  Diabetes
  •  Heart disease
  •  Arthritis

Even though very small amounts of animal blood, such as those found in rare or medium-rare steak, are unlikely to hurt, there is still a risk of contracting a foodborne illness. So, it's best to avoid drinking blood.
