As the marketing landscape continues to evolve, creating artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots has brought a new era of innovation. With the rising popularity of AI-powered language models such as OpenAI's ChatGPT, this new trend has caught the attention of social media platforms. However, their development is met with mixed reactions. Just recently, Meta, the parent organization of Facebook, unveiled its second version of its world-famous LLaMa.

What is Llama 2?

Llama 2 refers to the second-generation open-source large language model (LLM) offered by tech giant Meta. Designed to be used in building chatbots such as ChatGPT or Google Bard, this model has been trained on a huge amount of data for generating consistent and natural outputs.

Llama is the successor to the Llama 1 language model, released by the same company earlier this year. However, Llama 1 was closely guarded and was only made available upon request. Since Llama 2 is co-developed by Meta and Microsoft, applications built with this model will be available on Windows PCs, smartphones, and laptops that Snapdragon SoCs power.

According to Meta, Llama 2 is trained on 40% more data and has twice increased the context length than the original model. The new language model can provide more accuracy and power for human-like responses.

As a large language model, Llama 2 acts like GPT 3.5 and GPT 4, which power the AI chatbot. It allows its users to develop chatbots for personal and commercial use, in language generation, and in designing different AI-powered tools.

Free Gift for All

When other leading AI companies such as OpenAI and Google are closely securing their system, Meta has kept the language model free and open to all, allowing anyone to use it for research, commercial use, and technology development.

It is available for users to use, explore, and create tools using this model as the base. Although it is free for consumers, there are some limitations for business owners who desire to use it to develop tools intended for millions of users.

This move from Meta has challenged the dominance of ChatGPT, which sets the records for being one of the fastest-growing applications of all time. The open-source large language model also adds significant debate about who should control AI and whether it can be safe for the public.

The AI community has a record of open-sourcing knowledge. For instance, Google developed and shared the transformer model, which has become the foundation of cutting-edge AI models and was used in applications like ChatGPT.

Another benefit of the open-source model is that it allows researchers to analyze AI's advantages and disadvantages better. Experts in AI academics also believe it will enable researchers to find security and qualitative flaws in large language models.

However, some researchers argue that the negative outcome of these models may appear when they are out in the wild. Even the devoted supporters of open AI models know the possible risks. One of the major arguments is the possibility that AI will reach artificial general intelligence and outsmart humans one day in a way that we cannot control.
