IBM and The Weather Company come up on a great app. The app is developed to deliver storm alerts for internet-poor regions.

According to Digital Trends, oftentimes, climate changes is something that people does not worry about. Or if they, the lack of capability to have a reliable information on hand makes it the worst part. This goal served as inspiration for International Business Machines or IBM and The Weather Company to develop an app for weather alerts.

With the use of reliable cell connections and smartphones, the plan of The Weather Company became a success for the people. Besides, meteorologists and climatologists all over the world will not have a problem anymore to disseminate information as quickly as possible. However, the lack of cellular connectivity on underserved regions became a big challenge for the plan.

To solve the matter, a mesh technology developed by IBM researchers called Mesh Network Alerts technology provided a huge help. With this method, The Weather Company constructed a way on how to provide information to underserved people in developing countries. Even regions without the internet connection will be easily notified even if their cellular networks are disrupted, IBM reported.

The Weather Channel app from IBM will use peer-to-peer connections within the located mesh network. This will realize the goal of The Weather Company to send notifications and alerts to individual smartphones. Then, because it is connected via the mesh network, the signal will automatically link to other nearby smartphones thus extending information.

This idea and partnership of IBM and The Weather Company to provide notifications even to internet-poor regions can help save lives. There are no other important matters when calamity arises other than correct information. Mesh Network Alerts technology will play a crucial part in underdeveloped countries where data access is very limited. The new app will be available for Android at The Weather Channel App across Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
