When people look at pictures of the Earth taken from space, one would notice how a huge part of the planet is covered in blue. It looks like a white jewel in the midst of darkness. But what if the oceans on Earth would start to disappear? What if all the water was gone in a blink of an eye? The thought of it would definitely bring shivers to the spine. It will be devastating for everyone, including marine life, to imagine there would be no water in the world's oceans.

The oceans play a huge role in the survival of species, including mankind. Although the direct need of people for the ocean water is not often talked about, the role that it plays in the water cycle should speak of its importance. If there is no ocean that would participate in the cycle of water, it will turn the weather and the climate in general in hysteria.

Is it possible for the world to lose it oceans? The possibility of that is always present. The disappearance may not come fast, but it will bring about devastating results to the lives that have become dependent on it. Several problems could be born out of it:

  • Without ocean waters, there will be no marine life that will survive. Although there are several freshwater sources that can become a home to a number of marine life species, most will have to suffer miserable deaths. They may die as the ocean water dries up and that could result in a lot of lives lost in the process.

  • Without the ocean waters, people will have no alternative sources of water. At the moment, there are several plants in the US that specialize in turning saltwater into freshwater resources, considering the depleting conditions of freshwater resources due to climate change. If this alternative resource for water is gone, then all that is dependent on it could potentially die.

  • Without the ocean waters, the world would be stripped off the many cycles that are dependent on it including the water cycle. It is one of those cycles that practically take control of the balance between the heat and the cold conditions of the weather. If there is no ocean water to work around with, then the water cycle stops. This could bring about problems in how life in and outside the ocean will survive.

Taking care of the ocean is the task of everyone on Earth, but not everyone is doing their share. If only people knew what could happen to the world if it lost all its oceans, perhaps they'd start to show more concern and try to do something about it.
