With the widespread of coronavirus (COVID-19) nowadays, and most places are being locked down, many people in the world including the Americans, wonder what will happen to their work if their office is located at the locked-down areas. Zoom has an answer to that: televideo conferencing.

Since many companies today start sending their workers home, with an instruction to work remotely this, is probably the best way to keep the business going despite the worsening global situation this killer virus brings.

Zoom is a video company that allows the users to connect online for live, face-to-face meetings that can accommodate up to 100 people in a meeting. Like Skype, Zoom receives impressive remarks from regular users when asked about the app's quality and stability.

Two major benefits are what people get from using this tech tool. First, it allows companies to keep their best employees even without physically requiring them to report to the office for meetings and presentations. Second, it keeps people safe from harm and now, a serious illness that COVID-19 brings.

How Zoom Works

People who have tried and even those who have been using the app attest that Zoom is undeniably efficient and it is definitely the solution to continuous business and employment whatever difficult situation comes. For those who haven't tried or used Zoom, this is how it works:

  1. The host will send you a meeting invite via email.
  2. Join the meeting by clicking on the link sent to you and it will take you to the Zoom website and platform. (You can also use this app for meeting from your Android or iPhone device)

The two-way process is simple and it only takes a few clicks, asking the user to give it permission to use both his webcam and Microsoft. During the meeting, every participant or attendee is pictured at the screen's top part and when someone starts speaking, the picture pops out on full screen. In addition, while the meeting is going on, the participant can share documents and files, and even the video of their computer screen. For documentation, you can record the video and share it with others. There is only one slight drawback of using Zoom. Its free service only has a 40-minute meeting limit. However, the company lifted the limit in China, "in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak" when a lot of Chinese firms sent their respective employees home to contain the virus.

Business as Usual

Like the Chinese businesses, American firms are now doing the same. Microsoft, Amazon, Apple and other big companies are anticipating to contain the virus send their workers home to do their work from there.

And, as a home turns out to become more commonplace for work in the aftermath of coronavirus, there still lies the question, of the said companies are keen to the idea of more employees working from home and doing video conference for meetings via Zoom, or any other similar software.

Social media strategist Mailynne Calvin said, they've been on the Zoom platform for two years, "but we've worked as a team remotely for four." She also added that for them, they're performance-based and thus, it doesn't matter if one of them physically sees the other do something or not.
