Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is changing the world by showing its potential in various industries, such as healthcare, transportation, and entertainment. AI has entered the recruitment sector in the past years to filter candidates from a large pool of data to select the most suitable ones for the available position.

AI has indeed modified the role of Human Resource (HR) and is changing the whole environment and policy of companies. Fortune 500 companies are slowly adapting to this technology for a more efficient way of recruitment.

Professional journalist Andrea Murad narrated her experience of being screened by an AI in a job application for a new job. Her article in BBC tells how AI is being utilized these days in the field of recruitment.

Welcome to the World of Fast-Growing AI Recruitment

Murad is a professional journalist that was applying for a new job when she underwent a recruitment process conducted by an AI. She said that the recruitment process involved playing simple online games from her home.

These online games include counting the number of dots from two boxes, inflating a balloon before it bursts to win money, and matching emotions to facial expressions.

The AI then assessed her personality according to her answers to tell whether she passed or fail. She noted that no human got involved during the process. to that she wondered whether it is fair for a computer to process job applications and decide whether to accept or reject them.

the AI recruitment process she was put through was a test provided by the New York-based firm called Pymetrics. AI recruitment system has been in use for around the past decade, and it has been greatly refined in recent years. Its demand has grown significantly during the pandemic as it offers convenience and fast results.

The AI recruitment system is designed to evaluate certain aspects of a person's personality and intelligence, such as their tolerance and how quickly they respond to situations. According to Pymetrics, this is "to fairly and accurately measure cognitive and emotional attributes in only 25 minutes".

Some international companies using AI recruitment systems are McDonald's, bank JP Morgan, accountancy firm PWC, and food group Kraft Heinz. Pymetrics added that the system helps firms process a much wider pool of applicants and predict who among them will be successful in a job.

MedReps.com president Karyn Mullins said that the software could also look for candidates who are doing well in their current roles. MedReps.com is a job board specializing in hiring salespeople for the medical industry.

Hiring professionals and other businesses believe that AI is slowly taking over the recruitment industry, recognizing what should be done to align their jobs with AI. In the future, it is expected that AI would do more than scanning the right candidates, like writing job postings that could significantly change how recruiters and hiring professionals work.
