SpaceX owner and Tesla CEO Elon Musk poses on the red carpet of the Axel Springer Award 2020 on December 01, 2020 in Berlin, Germany.

Musk explained on his Twitter account that that Starbase would cover "an area much larger" than SpaceX's Texas facilities in Boca Chica Village.

He then followed up with another tweet, which read: "From thence to Mars and hence the stars."

It's uncertain what the CEO means by this statement. But it may suggest that the company is trying to expand. Boca Chica, formerly known as Kennedy Shores, is simply a quiet fishing community. Musk's use of the term 'city' means that the site could be slated for accelerated expansion.

Elon Musk's Starbase: Is He Expanding Through Texas?

With a rocket research site in McGregor and a launch center in Boca Chica, SpaceX now has a major presence in Texas. Tesla has revealed plans to develop a Gigafactory in Austin in 2020.

A vast number of jobs are currently open around the state due to SpaceX and The Boring Business. If that wasn't enough, Musk announced in December that he had transferred to the state.

But it's not shocking that the CEO is trying to make some more of an impression now that he's developed some serious roots.

In a statement to Business Insider, the judge's office in Cameron County, where Boca Chica is located, reported Musk's plans to build a community.

"In the last few days, Cameron County was officially approached by SpaceX regarding Elon Musk's interest to incorporate Boca Chica Village into the City of Starbase, Texas. Earlier today Cameron County Commissioners Court was informed of SpaceX's endeavor," the statement read.

The corporation is designing the Starship-Super Heavy, a giant steel launch vehicle that will one day send crewed missions to the moon and Mars. Musk, who created SpaceX in 2002, wants the spacecraft to be 394 feet tall (120 meters) and reusable forever. The machine could also be used to move people between places on Earth at breakneck speeds.

Elon Musk's Starbase: What Is It All About?

Bloomberg said the actual location of Starbase is the town of Boca Chica. According to the publication in late February, an unidentified SpaceX official made a "casual request" about integrating the group.

However, there is no Starbase city yet. According to city leaders, Musk will have to propose before the incorporation process could begin.

According to Bloomberg, Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino reported that SpaceX has yet to make a formal submission, too.

"Sending a tweet doesn't make it so," Trevino said to the publication.

According to a leaked FAA draft document shared with Insider in January, SpaceX may also be preparing to dig "up to five natural gas wells" and construct gas-fired power plants at its Boca Chica facilities.
