It may seem natural to feel fat and heavy these days after all the holiday eating. However, if you are involved in a desk job requiring you to be seated all day, it becomes a great contributor to your added weight.

According to a Medium report, a new study has shown that one needs 8,500 steps every day, and "getting up is crucial." The secret, though, is timing.

This is great news for people who either hate going to the gym or don't have the chance and time to do so because achieving those thousands of steps does not need more time outdoors or strenuous activities.

Extensive research has shown that sitting for a long time can be dangerous to one's health, explaining some reasons.

The 'Blue Zone' People

An article Medicine Science Sports Exercise published sheds new light on precisely how to boost fat burning. The study carried out in 2021 helps explain why the so-called "Blue Zone" people live for a long time.

In certain portions of Italy, Japan, Costa Rica, and Greece, four out of six "Blue Zones" citizens are found to age better.

Essentially, Blue Zoners clean their house, walk to the market, and, most of the time, stay busy the entire day. They continue attending to chores. They also walk everywhere into their 80s and 90s, not to mention, tend to remain slim.

These people's key to fat-burning is not a rigorous workout yet slow and steady movement the whole day. Even though weightlifting and HIIT help enhance metabolism, this report said, "turtle still beats rabbit."

8,500 Steps Each Day

As specified in the piece, 8,500 steps each day protects against resistance to exercise in fat metabolism. It appears that fat metabolism is impacted more by sitting, compared to hone hour of moderate to intense running.

One cannot burn fat without frequent movement. Getting up and moving regularly during the entire day, which means taking a minimum of 8,500 steps, and standing up at least one hour, makes a big difference.

That is not the entire story, though. One owes it to himself, if he is overweight, suffering from a metabolic disorder, or is possible to age, to find out the reason workout alone won't burn fat.

The "Daily Step Count and Postprandial Fat Metabolism" authors sought to understand further how exercise lowers the triglycerides the next day, following a high-fat meal and oxidation of fats.

The researchers opted for triglyceride levels and fat burning since both reveal the body's response to workouts. To break that down, both fat oxidation and triglyceride levels are indicators of "exercise resistance."

Health Risks Desk Job Brings

Wellworks For You report specified that based on recent health data regarding desk jobs, almost 86 percent of American employees have jobs that need them to stay seated for long hours.

There are numerous health problems to consider in terms of desk jobs. Sitting impacts a person's posture, mental health, and stress levels.

It may contribute as a factor or some medical problems, like cardiovascular diseases and carpal tunnel syndrome.

There are ways to prevent health risks caused by a desk job. One of these risks is the computer blue light coming from the computer screen that can cause harm to the vision.
