Researchers recently said people who have dark personality traits could establish short-term relationships more easily as they commonly have low expectations about their future partners, specifically in the case of men.

As specified in a Mail Online report, in psychology, narcissism is generally characterized by egotism, pride, grandiosity, and lack of empathy for other people.

According to researchers Laura Ferreiros and Miguel Clemente from Universidade de Coruna, even if these people's initial expectations are high, "they are willing to reduce them" to have more partner choices. Previous research has revealed that people with dark personality traits are inclined to be unsympathetic, violent, and manipulative.

Previous research has revealed that people with dark personality traits are inclined to be unsympathetic, violent, and manipulative.

Over 300 Participants Surveyed

Nonetheless, until now, little research has examined the link between dark personality traits and intimate couple relationships of young people.

In this new study, the research team discovered this link by studying 308 participants, whose ages range from 18 to 25 years old, 78.3 percent of whom were women, and 21.2 percent were men.

Participants were asked about their sexual practices, including their tendencies towards partners. They were also asked about their moral disengagement and dark personality traits.

'Dark Traits'

The study investigators analyzed dark traits that included Machiavellianism, psychopathy, narcissism, sadism, euphemistic labeling, moral justification, advantageous comparison, diffusion of responsibility, displacement of responsibility, dehumanization, and attribution of blame, among others. These were also described on the Learning Mind website.

The survey results showed that men got higher schools than women both in dark personality traits, as described and moral disengagement. People who were unfaithful, or those who consumed pornographic content, scored more highly, for such traits, except psychopathy.

Meanwhile, male individuals who had higher levels of dark personality were also found to be more likely to cheat on their partner, especially repeatedly.

Link Between Dark Personality Traits and Career

Describing their finding, the researchers said infidelity is strongly linked to the presence of "dark personality traits, unrestricted socio-sexuality, and having more sexual partners."

This research comes shortly after the study revealed that highly narcissistic people climb the career ladder to be their company's head 29 percent faster.

The study authors compared levels of narcissism in more than 200 CEOs across Italy, as determined by questionnaires, along with their employment background.

The researchers discovered that the executives who have the highest scores for narcissism, detailed in a Psychology Today report, got promoted faster, regardless of whether their company was family-owned.

This proposes that narcissistic people benefit from the toxic personality flaw when they are targeting to become the head of their firm the fastest possible, although experts do not know the reason for this.
