According to new data logged by the National Reporting Center, 88 people out of every 100,000 have reported seeing a UFO in Washington, USA, the highest percentage of any regional population in the world. In total, more than 150,000 UFO sightings have been reported worldwide in the last five decades since 1974. They are in addition to the 143 unexplained sightings of mystery craft by military personnel that are currently being investigated by the US government.

July is the most common month for sightings, according to Axios.

Washington, USA UFO Sightings

According to the Bellingham Herald, Washington has a long history of UFO sightings, dating back to when Boise pilot Kenneth Arnold was flying from Chehalis to Yakima and saw nine large, shiny objects flying near Mt. Rainier.

There is also the strange Maury Island incident of June 21, 1947, which happened just a few days before Arnold's sighting but was officially reported on June 26, after Arnold's report.

Harold Dahl and Fred Crissman of Tacoma claimed seeing six doughnut-shaped flying saucers while on their boat in Puget Sound near Maury Island. According to Dahl, one of the saucers spewed debris toward their boat, killing his dog and injuring his son.

National Reporting Center Role in UFO Sightings

Close encounters from around the world are cataloged at the center, and recognized by the police, military, NASA, air traffic controllers, the Federal Aviation Administration, and weather forecasters. Its primary function, according to its website, is to receive, record, corroborate and document reports from individuals who have witnessed unusual, possibly UFO-related events.

The center is perhaps the most well-known and widely accepted national UFO reporting facility available due to its independence from all other UFO-related organizations and its longstanding policy of guaranteeing anonymity to callers.

One of its policies, which sets it apart from the majority of other UFO organizations, is that it makes all of its data in a summary form available to the general public. Also, experienced UFO investigators have access to detailed information.

The number of UFO sightings was revealed after US defense officials announced that they are expanding their investigation into an unidentified aerial phenomenon (UAP). They will also investigate the sightings of USOs (unidentified submerged objects) and UTOs (unidentified transmedium objects) that operate above and below the waves.

The announcement came eight months after the United States established the Airborne Object Identification and Management Group to look into the origin of mysterious craft that military personnel has reported seeing since 2004.

The Airborne Object Identification and Management Group was formed to investigate the origins of mysterious craft seen by military personnel. The organization's name has been changed to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, or AARO, to reflect its expanded mandate to investigate sightings of unidentified flying and diving craft.

According to Ronald Moultrie, Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security, the project is critical to our national security and the safety of our military personnel. He added that we must also keep up with our adversaries' development and use of novel technology.
