On Thursday and Friday night, Sturgeon Supermoon will rise in the night sky. But some residents around the world have managed to capture it even though the moon has not yet reached its peak.

Sturgeon Supermoon Photos on Twitter

A post from Chris showed the beautiful supermoon from Ireland's St. John's Point Lighthouse in County Down. He shared it with amazement, saying that it was an absolute beauty.

Veronica in the Fens also posted on Twitter, stating that she captured 98% of the full moon rising over The Old Hall Ely in Ely, Cambridge, London.

Tim Cornbill said on his Twitter post that he could not believe that he was able to take a photo of the supermoon with Ryanair FR2162. He said that the plane took off from Birmingham to Palma de Mallorca and it passed just under the supermoon.

Khaleejtimes has also shared on its website the photos captured by UAE residents.

How to View the Last Supermoon of the Year

The supermoon can still be seen one more night, and Friday night is the best time to do so.

The optimal viewing window for Australians is on Friday at 25 minutes before midnight (AEST). But the best time to see it is just before the moonrise in the evening. On Australia's east coast, that means keeping an eye out for the horizon after 4:20 p.m. on Thursday and after 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

In the US, NASA said that the Sturgeon Moon would rise at 9:36 p.m. EST on Thursday, despite the fact that the moon has been full since last Wednesday.

Jackie Faherty, an astrophysicist at the American Museum of Natural History, advised those who wanted to see the supermoon to begin their viewing earlier by observing the moon rise just after sunset.

The supermoon is not particularly noticeable, according to Noah Petro, a planetary geologist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. On a clear night, it can still be a beautiful sight.

According to him, a supermoon is about 17% larger and 30% brighter than when a full moon is at apogee or its closest to Earth.

However, a slight difference between a supermoon and a full moon happens when the moon is farther away from Earth. According to James Lattis, an astronomer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the difference is only visible in photographs comparing the perigee full moon with an apogee full moon.

Supermoon Coincides with the Perseid Meteor Shower

The Perseid meteor shower is anticipated to reach its peak late Friday night into early Saturday morning, according to the International Meteor Organization. Although the Perseids can be one of the year's biggest meteor showers, visibility will be limited in 2022 due to the nearly full moon.

The best time to look for these meteors will be after midnight on Saturday morning. You will also need to be away from other lights and light pollution and find a location with a clear view of a clear sky devoid of clouds or haze.

You must turn your gaze away from the moon's light and toward the north. Three to six meteors per hour at most are anticipated for the three other meteor showers that will peak during this lunar cycle and fewer under urban viewing conditions.
