The journey of a photographer dramatically depends on the dedication one has towards perfecting the craft. Australian professional photographer Josh Beames does not only have the talent for capturing incredible moments, but his experience and understanding of photography have provided him with the opportunity of becoming a Nikon Z Creator and Nikon School Lecturer.

His work with Nikon

As a Nikon School Lecturer, Beames has been actively teaching classes for a little over two years and became a Nikon Z Creator in October 2020. Since the global pandemic, studies had to continue online. However, this has created new opportunities for international photography students to be taught by some of Nikons' finest. Josh teaches landscape photography, but there are plenty of other genres available to get acquainted with. He explains that "I do landscape photography, but that also goes into astrophotography, seascape photography, and Lightroom classes."

Becoming a Nikon School Lecturer has enabled him to teach others while on their journey to success in the photography industry. By making a name for himself, he was able to gain substantial recognition - specifically from Nikon, who allowed Josh to test out the D850 for two weeks before its initial release. By proving that he had what it takes, he was then offered a Nikon Lecturer position. Being able to pass on valuable information makes Josh such a great asset to Nikon, and his advice to novice photographers would be to say yes to opportunities that come your way, no matter how inadequate you feel, but to handle the pressure comes with the job especially.

As a Nikon Z Creator, Beames has developed his craft and perspective, which he can then share and inspire others with. This has so far been one of his most significant achievements, and he is now able to capture content for Nikon Australia with the Z6II and Z7II. He hopes to use the achievement of becoming a Nikon Z Creator to also bring further awareness and movement to causes that are personally important to him, saying, " I have a strong passion for the environment. I try to showcase my perspective and just how beautiful this planet is. From a diverse landscape to its natural phenomena. I feel the more people that find themselves taking photos and being out in nature and also respecting where they venture, the more people care and help create change."

How his journey with Nikon started

As a young child in Warrnambool, Victoria, Josh often found himself exploring. Being surrounded by Australia's natural beauty gave rise to his passion for the environment. Soon after discovering photography, he quickly began creating amazing content from his unique perspective of his world. In 2012, Josh bought himself an iPhone4 and a GoPro to get started. However, he soon realized that to achieve high-quality content; he would have to use more professional equipment. Hence, he opted for an entry-level Nikon DSLR in 2014 before finally getting a Nikon D750.

By putting in the time and energy, coupled with raw talent, Beames has paved the way for himself through the photography industry. With a firm belief in continuously developing and learning, Josh has taken to drone videography that he has incorporated into landscape photography, wedding photography, and property photography.  Currently, he works as a Nikon lecturer, where he can pass on his extensive knowledge and experiences to those who want to push the boundaries and achieve their vision with photography.

What the future holds for the photographer

Although the global pandemic has put many travelers' plans on hold, Josh has seen this as an opportunity to become even more acquainted with his homeland. With a few destinations in mind, one that he eagerly wants to visit and explore is the Kimberley, WA,  which is known for being one of the earliest settled parts in Australia, rich with ancient boab trees, red coastlines with crystal blue water, and an excellent spot for astrophotography.

He also hopes to continue his journey as a Nikon Z Creator and Lecturer since his belief in success is firmly planted in education and skills development.
