Moto's next flagship device for the Android smartphone industry seems to be the Moto Z2 Play, a successor to the current Z Play that has smart connectors on it. In a rare move, the Lenovo-owned firm swapped letter 'X' to 'Z' following which all 'Z' series smartphones indicating that the new lineup will likely serve as their high-end prosumer devices.
The report comes from Android Police where popular smartphone tipster Evan Blass claims the new Moto Z2 Play smartphone will be thinner by a millimeter and will also see a compromise in its battery capacity by about half-a-thousand mAh coming down from 3,510mAh to just 3,000mAh which for modern smartphone needs and usage, is quite low but however the display is limited to a resolution of 1080p on a 5.5-inch AMOLED panel.
With 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage onboard, the tradeoff for a more slimmer device which compromising on increased battery seems unreasonable. Unlike earlier where the device would have a comfortable amount of display on time, the new smartphone might not achieve the same results.
Meanwhile, details from GSMArena reports that the new Moto Z2 Play will weigh around 145g while having a device thickness of just 6mm. Other key hardware specifications include the 626 SoC will be clocked at 2.2gHz. The smartphone will have two cameras, one in the front and the other in the back. The rear camera will have a resolution of 12MP while the front-facing camera can take pictures up to a resolution of 5MP.
The Moto Z2 Play will be offered in two colors of Lunar Gray and Fine Gold and will likely be the first among the three refreshed devices from Moto that will be released throughout the year. A Separate report seems to suggest that the remaining two other devices will be the Moto C and the C-plus.
