Nintendo Switch continues to be among the popular handheld consoles right now in the market, providing a new experience for gamers. Right now, they got their eyes set on conquering the world of fitness games again with Ring Fit Adventure.

NOT FOR COUCH POTATOES

It seems Nintendo is pushing to keep the tradition of creating games that keep gamers active with Ring Fit Adventure. The game perfectly combines the casual nature of Nintendo's earlier fitness games with the traditional elements of role-playing games (RPG).

Ring Fit Adventure comes with a Ring-con upon purchase. The Ring-con is a circular controller that enables players to get through most of the workout routines in the game. This is made with the same high quality and well-crafted material as the Switch itself and is designed to survive plenty of abuse. There are cushions on the Ring-con as well for a player to maintain their grip despite sweating every after a workout.

Upon startup, the game will ask for the player's basic information such as age, height, weight, and gender to suggest levels for the workout. It will also assess the player's strength level and overall difficulty by encouraging the player to squeezing the Ring-con and jog in place. These settings can be changed in the menu whenever the player gets bored, or the suggested setting becomes a piece-of-cake.

If the player inputs accurate data, Ring Fit Adventure will total exercise time, calories burned, and total records. It will also give feedback on the progress that the player reached on a daily basis.

MODES IN THE GAME

There are three modes that gamers can enjoy in Ring Fit Adventure: adventure mode, quick play mode, and multitask mode. There is also an additional Silent Mode for those who cannot jog or have disabilities or leg injuries. In Silent Mode, the player uses the analog controller instead to move the character.

In the Adventure Mode, players are welcome with an RPG-style of gaming. It allows players to go on a journey while working out. In this mode, players follow the storyline of the main character who accidentally frees Dragaux, a very buff dragon, and meets Ring -- this character grants the main character powers and a ring that will activate workouts. These two items are what the main character needs to defeat Dragaux.

There are several levels in each world in the adventure mode and like every RPG, there is going to be a boss battle. Players can defeat the enemy by accomplishing workout routines such as knee lifts for climbing stairs, pushing the ring to hover on platforms, and so on. All of these are accomplished while maintaining a steady jog.

For players to deal damage to their enemies, they have to complete one of several exercises successfully. Each of these moves will have a recharge time. To defend themselves against enemy attacks, players will have to use Ab Guard routines. The attack and defense points of a player increase when they level up.

In the Quick Play mode, there is none of the boss battles and level-ups. It's an immediate jump to action and exercise. There are specific workouts for a certain part of the body, as well. This is more likely for adult players who do not have time to engage in a story mode.

Quick Play mode also offers mini-games attached to each exercise to break the monotony somehow. Players can enter the custom mode as well, where they can customize the look of their playable characters.

Lastly, Multitask Mode. In this mode, players can exercise without the screen. This mode allows players to record presses and pulls done with the Ring-con during exercise. To go into Multitask mode, the Joy-con must be activated in sleep mode.

The advantage of playing Ring Fit Adventure is that it monitors the well being of its players. It encourages them to do warm-ups first and cooldowns to reduce the risk of injury. The Joy-con can measure heart rate through its sensor and encourages the players to take the necessary breaks between workouts.
