5 Tips In Caring For Your Pets During Lockdown

These changes can contribute to stress, and boredom and pets find it more stressful as they cannot understand why it must be so. The good news is, while everyone is adjusting to the lockdown life, there are many pet care tips to help pets feel more comfortable in these uncertain times.

Here are some tips for pet care during the lockdown.

Give Pets Lots of Physical Exercises

Although there are still some restrictions on how many walks someone can take outside, being cooped up and inactive for long periods might make pets more prone to depression and anxiety.

Pet owners should look for innovative ways to keep them physically active. Activities such as playing fetch, climbing the stairs, or running around the garden would help.

Some even play hide and seek with their pets, and some take their dogs on a simulated walk inside their houses.

Bathe Pets Often

Another tip of pet care is increasing the frequency of pet baths, especially if they often have walked outside. Immediately after their walk, owners should be aware of and follow disinfection practices.

Their feet should be washed and wiped clean. Using wet towels or baby wipes or other pet-friendly sanitizers, remove dust and debris and wipe them down for the second time.

Moreover, remember to always correctly and hygienically dispose of any waste and stock up on enough litter bags to prevent contamination.

Keep Pets Well-Groomed

Keeping pets clean and well-groomed is important, more so during these times of uncertainty. However, shops that offer grooming services for pets may be closed or inaccessible.

That means owners need to do their pet's regular trimming of hair and nails for the meantime. Remember to be careful with the grooming equipment like the scissors to avoid causing any injuries to the animals.

Stock Up Food, Medicines, and Other Necessities

Since no one knows when the local shops will run out of the supplies needed both for humans and pets, it is better to stock up on some essentials for them just as a person would stock up supply for themselves.

Online pet stores are also available, so consider buying from them instead of the physical stores to minimize contact. The supplies needed include pet food, grooming materials, anti-flea/tick treatments, deworming medicine, and medicines to reduce fever and stop vomiting.

But remember to leave enough for other pet owners also. Avoid hoarding supplies.

Make Sure Their Vaccinations Are Up to Date

Do not forget to check the pet's vaccination date or due for a booster soon. Determine which appointments are urgent and which can be postponed by calling their veterinarians.

Occasionally, give them a basic physical check-up like checking their ears, eyes, mouth, teeth, and coat, and make sure that they are eating well and are active.

But most of all, keep in touch with the veterinarian if the pets show any symptoms of sickness.
