In a fast-paced world, everyone is looking for ways to do things the fastest and easiest way, such as cooking chicken. Fortunately, the internet has the answer to that although it might not be the conventional solution and not many have tried it yet.

According to Bored Panda, a question posted in the subreddit r/NoStupidQuestions asked: "If kinetic energy is converted into thermal energy, how hard do I have to slap a chicken to cook it?"

To which physics major Parker Osmonde said that "it would take 23,034 average slaps to cook a chicken," with a velocity of 3,725.95 mph.

It was indeed a ridiculous number at that time so many tried it but unfortunately failed. Then came YouTuber Louis Weisz, who is known for his whacky experiments, and decided to try cooking the chicken by slapping it. He said he is doing this after two years of having no satisfying answer to the question in Reddit.

He unveiled a chicken slapper in one of his videos which managed to raise a temperature and cook the chicken only by slapping it. His chicken slapping experiment went viral that now has over nine million views as of this writing.

How Many Slaps Could Cook A Chicken?

Cooking uses thermal energy that was converted from either electrical potential energy or chemical potential energy, depending on what cooking appliance is used.

But in the slap-cook's case, it uses kinetic energy from the slap which is then converted to thermal energy to cook the chicken. Osmonde explained that the formula for converting kinetic energy to thermal energy will be: 1/2mv^2=mcT.

Given that the average human hand weighs around 0.4 kg, has a velocity of 25 mph (11m/s) when slapping, and one slap could generate 0.00089 degrees Celsius it means that it would take an average of 23,034 slaps to cook a chicken at 400°F (205°C).

But to do this, each slap should have a velocity of at least 1,665.65 m/s or 3,725.95 mph.

Several people followed and tried his method but no one succeeded in cooking a chicken just by slapping it. Two years later, an experiment finally showed how many slaps could cook meat that makes it edible.

Slapping A Chicken To Cook It

It takes approximately 75°C to cook a chicken, according to Sciences Studio. Assuming that the room temperature is 20°C, the temperature the chicken need to be cook should be 55°C.

Weisz got similar advice from the Modernist Culture which said that the chicken should be at 55-60 degrees Celsius (131-140 degrees Fahrenheit) for at least one hour to cook it or kill the bacteria, ScienceAlert reported.

He showed in his YouTube video the attempts he made for two months in making the slapping machine and the many trials he did. After so many failed attempts, he finally hit the jackpot and showed that the final number of slaps needed should be a minimum of 135,000 across eight hours to slap-cook a chicken.

Weisz used 7,500 Watt-hours of energy, which is two to three times the amount that will be used when using the oven. He also tried cooking a steak using the same method although he said that it does not taste nearly good as those cooked conventionally.
