Nutifood has secured United States Patent and Trademark Office protection for a proprietary pediatric nutrition formula, marking a notable development for Vietnamese dairy manufacturers seeking international IP recognition.

A Patent Beyond Product Recognition

The United States Patent and Trademark Office recently granted a patent to Nutifood's FDI Formula, a nutritional formulation developed by the company's Swedish research institute. The formula combines 2'-FL HMO and FOS in a proprietary ratio designed to support both digestion and immunity in young children.

Its scientific positioning was further reinforced through a 2021 clinical study conducted by Vietnam's National Institute of Nutrition, which found that the formula helped improve common digestive issues such as loss of appetite, constipation, and diarrhea, while also supporting a reduced risk of respiratory infections.

Those findings have since become central to Nutifood's broader product strategy. Over the past five years, the FDI Formula has been integrated across the company's GrowPLUS+ portfolio. Building on this foundation, each product is fortified with essential nutrients in optimized formulations tailored to children's nutritional needs and developmental stages.

The achievement is significant not only because of the patent itself, but because of what it represents in the increasingly competitive global nutrition industry.

Building a Science-Led Nutrition Identity

For Nutifood, the USPTO patent reinforces a research-led strategy that has increasingly shaped the company's growth over recent years. At the center of that strategy is the proprietary FDI Formula, which Nutifood says has become the scientific foundation behind its GrowPLUS+ portfolio, one of Vietnam's leading pediatric nutrition brands.

"Nutifood FDI Formula being granted a patent by the USPTO is evidence of Nutifood's serious commitment to investing in nutritional science research," said Tran Bao Minh, Vice Chairman of Nutifood.

That science-first positioning has also driven Nutifood's broader international expansion in research and development. In recent years, the company has expanded its R&D ecosystem across Sweden and Australia, while strengthening collaborations with global groups including BASF, DuPont, and DSM-Firmenich.

The international research infrastructure, combined with the USPTO patent, has drawn recognition from industry observers. Glenn Millar, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Global Markets, California Milk Advisory Board, noted that the USPTO-patented FDI Formula provides a strong foundation for Nutifood to further develop specialized nutritional solutions aligned with international standards. He added that an approach combining modern nutritional science with research into children's physical conditions and specific nutritional needs would unlock new opportunities for innovation in the future of children's nutrition.

Vietnam's Nutrition Industry Looks Outward

The Asia-Pacific dairy market, valued at $361.7 billion in 2025, is projected to reach $605.4 billion by 2034, according to IMARC Group. Within this growth trajectory, premium segments are expanding rapidly, particularly A2 milk.

Nutifood is positioned to capture that premium growth through a dual strategy: securing intellectual property protection while building international supply chains. Concurrent with the USPTO patent announcement, the company unveiled Nutifood America-Nutrition Science, a new U.S.-based operation.

The initiative includes expansion of A2 Organic dairy farming in the United States, with Nutifood evaluating investment in spray-drying facilities to supply premium A2 ingredients back to Vietnam. Those ingredients will be used to manufacture products under the Nutifood America-Nutrition Science brand, with the product line built around the USPTO-patented FDI Formula and targeting consumers seeking enhanced nutritional options.

The U.S. expansion builds on Nutifood's growing international footprint. In 2025, the company partnered with ViPlus Dairy, a 130-year-old company from Australia's Gippsland region, to introduce the GippsNature premium dairy brand.

With USPTO-backed innovation and an expanding worldwide presence, Nutifood is strengthening its position in the global premium nutrition market.
