Snapchat is one of the most popular messaging platforms these days. The image messaging service is preferred by youngsters for its time bound messages that disappear. Snap Inc. (originally Snapchat Inc.) has recently started a countdown on its official website in order to commence the arrival of its new innovation, "Spectacles" the video recording sunglasses.

According to Digital Trends, the countdown can be accessed on the "Spectacles" website homepage by selecting the "find a bot" link. A timer can be seen on a bright yellow background that shows where to purchase "Spectacles" from Snapchat via the Snapbot vending machine. The countdown, though does not contain a Snapbot image, which has got people talking about "Spectacles" even more. There have been rumors doing the rounds that the countdown may not be just about "Spectacles" availability but something much bigger.

The speculations about "Spectacles" from Snapchat have divided people into two sections. One section is claiming that Snapchat will be opening more stores and start selling the sunglasses online, besides releasing an update or new versions. People from the other section are of the opinion that it's all a ruse and only a new Snapbot location is going to be revealed by Snapchat.

The real plan of Snapchat regarding its "Spectacles", though, is yet to be contemplated as its New York City store was shut down on February 19th. Snap Inc. has also revealed that it has been pouring into inventory, marketing and distribution for the sunglasses and focusing on product innovation, though a major "upgrade" is not very likely in the recent future.

According to Business Insider, "Spectacles" are comparatively better looking than the head mounted google glasses. The normal looking "Spectacles" have yellow circles near the lens that light up when the record button on the top of the frames is hit and record videos for 10 seconds of whatever the user sees. "Spectacles" are available for $130.

"Spectacles" can be a used as an alternative to a DSLR camera to capture videos, though the image quality differs quite a lot. The drawbacks that can let the "Spectacles" down are the poor resolution quality and that one can't see the videos right after capturing them.

Snapchat has not revealed whether it is going to sell "Spectacles" through any other channels than that of the Snapbot. There has been no official communication about this from Snap Inc. The most recent Snapbot is located in Seattle. From the already garnered buzz, it seems Snapchat "Spectacles" may succeed in what google glasses failed.
